Replacement Work

Sink Replacement That Protects Your Countertops and Cabinets

Sinks wear out in different ways depending on their material. Enamel on cast iron chips and exposes metal that can rust. Porcelain and fireclay crack from impacts or stress. Stainless steel can dent, pit or develop stubborn stains, and thin older models may flex and break their seal. Composite sinks can crack or lose their finish. Sometimes the sink is fine but no longer fits the kitchen’s style or the way you cook and clean.

Replacing a sink is usually easier than replacing the countertop around it, but it still takes care. The new sink must fit the existing cutout, faucet holes and cabinet space. Drop-in sinks are generally simple to swap. Undermount sinks are more involved because they’re bonded and clipped beneath stone. Our plumbers evaluate your countertop, cutout and cabinet before recommending replacement sinks, then remove and install them without damaging surrounding surfaces.

Undermount Swaps

Replacing an Undermount Sink Without Replacing the Countertop

Undermount sinks are held up from below by brackets fixed to the countertop, plus a strong sealant bond along the whole rim. In some installations, the sink was set before the countertop and is partly supported by the cabinet. Removing it means supporting the sink, releasing the clips, carefully cutting through the old adhesive and lowering the sink out of the cabinet without chipping the polished cutout edge of the stone.

The new sink must match the existing cutout closely. Undermount cutouts create a visible reveal, the edge of countertop that overhangs the sink, and a sink with a different shape or size can leave gaps or expose unfinished stone. In some cases, a fabricator can modify the cutout. We measure the existing opening precisely and help you choose a replacement that fits well, avoiding the expense and disruption of replacing the countertop.

Benefits of Professional Sink Replacement

Professional replacement prevents chipped stone, cracked laminate and damaged cabinets during removal. Accurate measurements ensure the new sink fits the existing cutout cleanly, avoiding countertop replacement. Secure mounting keeps undermount sinks from sagging or separating later. New drain components and seals prevent leaks under the sink. And replacing a damaged sink ends hidden water damage, rust stains and the frustration of an old basin that no longer suits your space.

Finding a Sink That Fits Your Existing Cutout

The easiest sink replacement is one where the new sink fits the opening already cut in your countertop. A few measurements make that possible.

For drop-in sinks, measure the cutout itself, not the old sink’s rim, and choose a new sink whose rim fully covers the opening with room to seal. A slightly larger cutout can sometimes be accommodated, while laminate counters can often be trimmed to fit a larger sink.

For undermount sinks, measure the cutout’s length, width and corner radius, along with the bowl depth and cabinet width below. Matching these closely keeps the reveal consistent. Also confirm the faucet hole layout and drain position, so the faucet, disposal and trap line up without awkward modifications.

How Our Sink Replacement Works

We measure your existing sink, cutout and cabinet, then help you choose a replacement or confirm the one you’ve selected.

On replacement day, the faucet, drain, disposal and dishwasher connections are disconnected. The old sink is supported and removed carefully, especially for undermount installations, and the countertop edge and cabinet are cleaned of old adhesive and sealant. Cabinet supports are checked and reinforced if the new sink is heavier.

The new sink is mounted, leveled and sealed, and the faucet, drain assembly and appliance connections are reinstalled with fresh seals and lines as needed. We fill and drain each bowl, run any disposal and dishwasher and check for leaks thoroughly before removing the old sink from your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sink Replacement Questions Answered

Have Any Question on Your Minds?
Can you replace an undermount sink?

Yes. We support the sink, release clips and adhesive and remove it carefully, then install a new sink sized to the existing cutout.

It depends on the cutout size and shape. We measure precisely and help you choose a sink that fits without countertop modification.

Not necessarily. A faucet in good condition can often be reinstalled, though many homeowners replace both at the same time for a matched look.

Drop-in replacements often take a few hours. Undermount replacements can take longer because of careful removal and adhesive curing time.

We remove the old sink from your home and dispose of it responsibly, recycling metal sinks where local facilities allow.
