Roman tub faucet dripping, clawfoot faucet leaking at the legs or a wall spout that’s loose and spraying? Our plumbers repair bathtub faucets and spouts of every style and mounting type.

Tub Fixtures

Bathtub Faucet Repair for Deck, Wall and Freestanding Fixtures

Bathtub faucets come in more varieties than most people expect. Many alcove tubs share a wall valve with the shower and use a simple spout. Older bathrooms may have tub-only two or three-handle faucets on the wall. Garden and drop-in tubs often feature Roman tub faucets mounted on the deck, with valves hidden beneath. Clawfoot tubs use exposed faucets with supply legs, sometimes with a telephone-style handheld, while freestanding tubs may have floor-mounted fillers.

Each style has its own parts and access challenges. Deck-mounted valves sit under the tub platform, so repairs may require an access panel. Clawfoot faucets connect through exposed supply lines with compression fittings that loosen and drip. Floor-mounted tub fillers have long risers and internal valves. Wall spouts loosen, crack or leak at the pipe connection. Our plumbers identify your faucet type and brand, then repair cartridges, stems, seals, handhelds and spouts with correctly matched components.

Deck Faucets

Repairing Roman Tub Faucets on Drop-In and Garden Tubs

Roman tub faucets are mounted on the deck surrounding a drop-in or garden tub, with hot and cold valves, a spout and often a handheld sprayer installed through holes in the deck. The valves, supply lines and connecting hoses sit beneath the deck, inside the framed platform. Many installations include an access panel on the side of the platform or in an adjoining closet, which makes repairs much simpler and cleaner.

Common problems include dripping spouts from worn valve cartridges, leaks at the connecting hoses below the deck and handheld sprayers that leak or won’t divert properly. Some cartridges can be replaced from above by removing the handles and trim. Hose and connection leaks require access below. If no access panel exists, we can often create one in a discreet location, which also simplifies every future repair to the tub and its plumbing.

Benefits of Professional Bathtub Faucet Repair

Repairing a bathtub faucet stops wasted hot water and the stains that drips leave in the tub. Matched parts preserve the look of vintage and designer fixtures. Fixing leaks beneath decks and at clawfoot supply legs protects floors from hidden water damage. Correctly sized spouts seal properly against the wall. And restoring working handhelds and diverters brings back the full convenience of your tub without the expense of new fixtures.

Slip-On or Threaded? Replacing a Tub Spout

A leaking or loose tub spout is often replaced rather than repaired. The key is matching the new spout to how the old one attaches.

Slip-on spouts slide over a smooth copper or brass pipe and are held in place with a set screw underneath. Threaded spouts screw onto a pipe nipple with threads, either at the end of the pipe or partway inside the spout. Using the wrong style leaves gaps that leak behind the wall.

The pipe length from the wall also matters, since spouts are designed for a specific reach. If the spout includes a diverter, it must suit the shower valve. We check the connection type, pipe length and diverter needs, then install a spout that seals tightly against the wall.

How Our Bathtub Faucet Repair Works

Tell us the faucet style and what it’s doing, and send a photo if possible, so we can identify the parts needed.

Your plumber shuts off the water and examines the faucet, spout, handheld and any accessible connections, checking for access panels on deck-mounted tubs. The cause is identified, and you’ll receive the repair plan and cost, including any access that may be required, before work begins.

Worn cartridges, stems, washers or seals are replaced, spouts are refitted or replaced and hoses and connections are tightened or renewed. Finishes are protected throughout. Both temperatures, the spout, the handheld and the diverter are all run, and we inspect every joint at the tub and beneath it for drips.

Loose compression fittings on the supply legs or worn washers inside the faucet are common causes. Tightening or replacing them stops the leak.

The spout may be the wrong type, loose or cracked. A correctly matched slip-on or threaded spout seals tightly against the wall.

Yes. We source matching stems, washers and parts for many older faucets, preserving the character of vintage and historic bathrooms.

A typical tub faucet fix is finished in an hour or two. Deck faucets needing new access panels or hard-to-find vintage parts may take longer.
