Backflow Services That Keep Contaminants Out of the Water Supply
Water is supposed to flow one way, from the public main into your property. Backflow happens when it reverses, pulling or pushing water from your plumbing back toward the supply. Anywhere your plumbing connects to something non-potable, like an irrigation system, boiler, fire sprinkler line, pool fill or commercial equipment, there’s a cross-connection. If flow reverses, fertilizers, chemicals, bacteria or stagnant water could enter the drinking water you and your neighbors use.
Backflow prevention assemblies stop that from happening. They’re mechanical devices with check valves and, on some models, relief valves that close or open to block reverse flow. Because they have moving parts and rubber components that wear, water utilities usually require testable assemblies to be checked by a certified tester when installed and at regular intervals, often yearly. Our backflow services cover testing, certification paperwork, new installations, repairs and replacements for residential, commercial and irrigation systems.

Backsiphonage and Backpressure: Two Ways Water Flows Backward
Backsiphonage occurs when pressure in the public water main drops suddenly, such as during a main break, firefighting or heavy demand nearby. The lower pressure can create a siphon that pulls water backward from a building’s plumbing. A garden hose submerged in a bucket of fertilizer, a sprinkler system sitting in wet soil or a utility sink hose left in a mop bucket can all be drawn back toward the supply under the right conditions.
Backpressure happens when pressure inside a building’s system exceeds the supply pressure, pushing water backward. Boilers, booster pumps, pressurized equipment and elevated tanks can all create backpressure. Because each situation presents different risks, codes and water utilities specify which type of assembly is required based on the degree of hazard. A low-hazard connection may need a simpler device, while a high-hazard connection requires a reduced pressure assembly with an independent relief valve.
Why Property Owners Choose Our Backflow Team
We make backflow compliance straightforward. Our licensed and insured plumbers include certified backflow testers who use calibrated test kits and follow the procedures your water utility requires. Benefits of Professional Backflow Services
Professional backflow services protect your household, tenants, customers and neighbors from contaminated water. Timely testing keeps you in compliance with your water utility, avoiding fines, notices and the risk of service being shut off. Prompt repairs keep assemblies working as designed. Correct installation ensures the device matches your hazard level and meets code. And having one team handle testing, repairs and paperwork saves time and removes stress from annual compliance deadlines.
Backflow Services in CA, TX and FL
We provide backflow services for homes, irrigation systems and commercial properties across California, Texas and Florida, following each local water utility’s specific testing schedules, online reporting methods and approved assembly requirements.
Common Types of Backflow Prevention Assemblies
Several types of backflow preventers are used, and the right one depends on the hazard level, the installation location and local requirements.
A reduced pressure principle assembly, often called an RP or RPZ, provides the highest protection for high-hazard connections. It uses two check valves with a relief valve between them that discharges water if either check fails. It must be installed above ground where discharge can drain.
Double check valve assemblies protect against lower-hazard connections, such as some fire sprinkler systems. Pressure vacuum breakers are common on irrigation systems, protecting against backsiphonage only, and must be installed above the highest sprinkler head. We’ll identify which assembly your property has and what it requires.
How Our Backflow Services Work
We review your utility notice or project needs, identify the assemblies on your property and schedule testing or installation work.
For testing, a certified tester connects a calibrated test kit, checks each valve and relief function and records the results. If an assembly fails, we explain the problem and the repair price. For new installations, we choose the correct assembly type, obtain permits and install it in an accessible, code-compliant location.
Repairs are completed with manufacturer-approved parts, and the assembly is retested to confirm it passes. We submit test reports to your water utility in the required format and keep a copy for your records. Then we schedule a reminder, so next year’s test happens before your deadline.

Backflow Services Questions Answered
What is a backflow preventer?
It’s a device installed on a water line that stops water from flowing backward into the public supply when pressure changes occur.
How often must backflow be tested?
Most water utilities require testable assemblies to be tested at installation and annually. Your utility’s notice specifies your exact deadline.
Do homes need backflow preventers?
Many do, especially homes with irrigation systems, fire sprinklers, pools or wells. Requirements vary by water utility and local code.
What happens if I miss a test?
Utilities may send follow-up notices, charge fees or, in some cases, suspend water service until the assembly is properly tested.
Can a failed assembly be repaired?
Usually yes. Most failures involve worn rubber parts, springs or debris, which we repair and retest during the same visit.
