Annual Testing

Backflow Testing
Certified, Calibrated and On Time

Did your water utility send a backflow testing notice? Our certified testers check your assembly with calibrated equipment, handle any repairs and submit results before your deadline.

Why Test

Backflow Testing That Confirms Your Assembly Actually Works

A backflow preventer can look perfectly fine from the outside while its internal parts have failed. Rubber seats harden, springs weaken, debris lodges under check valves and relief valves stick. None of that is visible, and a failed assembly gives no warning until backflow actually occurs. That’s why water utilities require testable assemblies to be tested when they’re installed, after repairs and at regular intervals, most often once a year, by a certified backflow tester.

Backflow testing uses a specialized differential pressure gauge connected to the assembly’s test cocks. The tester checks that each check valve holds tight against reverse flow and that relief valves or air inlets open when they should, comparing readings against minimum values set by recognized testing standards. Our certified testers perform backflow testing on reduced pressure assemblies, double check valves, pressure vacuum breakers and spill-resistant vacuum breakers, then report results to your water utility.

What We Test

Backflow Testing Services We Offer

We test backflow assemblies protecting domestic water, irrigation, fire sprinkler and commercial process lines for homes, HOAs, apartment complexes, restaurants, schools and commercial buildings, coordinating access and submitting reports in the format your utility requires.

RP Assemblies

Test reduced pressure assemblies, including both checks and relief valves.

Double Checks

Test double check valve assemblies on fire lines and service connections.

Vacuum Breakers

Test pressure and spill-resistant vacuum breakers on lawn irrigation systems.

Fire Lines

Test fire sprinkler backflow assemblies, coordinating with alarm monitoring companies.

Initial Tests

Perform initial tests required after new assemblies are installed or relocated.

Post-Repair Retests

Retest assemblies after repairs to confirm they pass every check.

Test Day

What Happens During a Backflow Test, Step by Step

The tester begins by inspecting the assembly for proper installation, damage and leaks, and confirming the shutoff valves operate. Test cocks are flushed to clear debris. The downstream shutoff valve is closed, which briefly interrupts water to the property or system served by the assembly. Hoses from the calibrated differential pressure gauge are then connected to the appropriate test cocks, following the exact sequence required for that particular type of assembly.

For a reduced pressure assembly, the tester checks the relief valve opening point and the pressure each check valve holds. For a double check, each check is tested for tightness. Vacuum breakers are tested for air inlet opening and check valve tightness. Readings are recorded, shutoff valves are reopened and water service is restored. Most tests take well under an hour per assembly, and you’ll know right away whether it passed or failed.

Benefits of Professional Backflow Testing

A professional test verifies your assembly will actually protect drinking water when pressure changes occur. Timely, accurately reported tests keep you in compliance with your utility and avoid late notices, fees and potential service suspension. Catching worn parts during testing allows planned repairs instead of emergencies. Proper coordination minimizes disruption to residents, customers and fire protection. And reliable records simplify inspections, insurance reviews and property transactions for owners and managers.

How to Prepare for Your Backflow Test

A little preparation helps testing go quickly and avoids return trips. Here’s what property owners and managers can do ahead of the appointment.

Make sure the assembly is accessible. Clear away plants, mulch, stored items or locked enclosures, and provide keys or gate codes if needed. Let occupants know water may be off briefly during the test, and avoid scheduling the visit during times of heavy water use.

For fire sprinkler assemblies, the alarm monitoring company must be notified before testing, since closing the control valves can trigger alarms and a dispatch. Have your utility’s testing notice available, including any account or assembly identification numbers. We’ll handle everything else, including submitting the completed report on time.

How Our Backflow Testing Service Works

We review your utility notice, confirm assembly types and locations and schedule a convenient time well before your compliance deadline.

On test day, our certified tester inspects the assembly, flushes test cocks and briefly shuts off water downstream. The calibrated gauge is connected and each check valve, relief valve or air inlet is tested according to the required procedure, with every reading recorded carefully on the official report.

If the assembly passes, water is restored and the report is submitted to your utility. If it fails, we explain the issue and repair price, complete approved repairs and retest. You receive a copy of the passing report, and we schedule a reminder before next year’s test.
