Know What Flows From Your Tap

Wondering about hardness, lead, chlorine or that odd taste in your tap water? Our plumbers test your home’s water and explain the results in plain language before recommending any treatment.

Start With Facts

Water Testing That Shows What's Really in Your Home's Water

Water quality questions usually start with something you notice. White scale on fixtures points to hardness. Blue-green stains suggest corrosive water attacking copper pipes. A bleach smell means chlorine, while a rotten egg odor in hot water often involves the water heater’s anode rod. Cloudy, rusty or gritty water has its own causes. Testing replaces guesswork with measurements, so you understand what’s happening and whether it actually needs any treatment at all.

Some concerns can’t be seen, smelled or tasted at all. Lead can enter water from older service lines, solder and brass fixtures inside the home, even when the utility’s water meets standards at the treatment plant. Nitrates, arsenic and certain chemicals are also invisible. Our plumbers perform on-site screening for common parameters and collect samples for accredited laboratories when health-related contaminants need precise, reliable results you can confidently act on.

Testing Options

Water Testing Services We Provide

We provide on-site water screening and laboratory sample collection for houses, condos, rentals and businesses on city water, interpreting results clearly and recommending treatment only when testing shows a genuine need for it.

Hardness Testing

Measure calcium and magnesium levels to size softeners or scale control.

Lead Testing

Collect first-draw samples for accredited labs to measure lead accurately.

Chlorine Testing

Measure chlorine and chloramine levels that affect taste, odor and filters.

TDS/pH Testing

Check dissolved solids and pH to assess corrosiveness and treatment needs.

Iron Testing

Test iron and manganese levels behind rust stains and discolored water.

Lab Analysis

Arrange comprehensive accredited lab panels for health-related contaminants and peace of mind.

Screening vs Lab

On-Site Water Screening Compared With Accredited Lab Testing

On-site screening uses test strips, digital meters and reagent kits to measure hardness, chlorine, pH, TDS and iron during the visit. Results are available immediately, which makes screening ideal for sizing softeners and filters, diagnosing taste and odor complaints and checking that existing treatment equipment is working. It’s quick and affordable. However, field tests have limited precision and can’t reliably detect many health-related contaminants at the very low levels that matter.

Accredited laboratory testing is the right choice for lead, arsenic, nitrates, bacteria, PFAS and other health concerns. Labs use calibrated instruments and strict procedures, delivering precise results that can be compared against federal and state standards. Samples must be collected correctly, in the right containers and often at specific times, such as first-draw samples for lead. We collect samples properly, send them to certified labs and help you interpret the report.

Benefits of Professional Water Testing

Testing tells you what’s actually in your water, replacing worry and guesswork with facts. It prevents spending money on treatment equipment you don’t need, or choosing a system that misses your real problem. Accurate hardness and iron readings ensure softeners and filters are sized correctly. Lead testing gives families with older plumbing real peace of mind. And retesting after installation confirms your treatment system is delivering the results you expected.

Reading Your Utility's Water Quality Report

If you’re on city water, your utility publishes an annual water quality report, often called a Consumer Confidence Report. It’s a useful starting point.

The report lists contaminants detected in the water system, their levels and how they compare with legal limits. It also explains the water source, treatment methods and whether chlorine or chloramine is used for disinfection. Most utilities post reports online or mail them to customers each year.

However, the report reflects water leaving the treatment plant and sampled across the system. It can’t show what happens inside your home’s plumbing, where lead, copper and other issues may arise. Testing at your tap fills that gap and shows what your family actually drinks.

How Our Water Testing Service Works

We discuss your concerns, review any utility report or past results and decide which parameters and tests make sense for your home.

During the visit, we screen hardness, chlorine, pH, TDS and iron on site and inspect plumbing materials that may affect water quality. When lab testing is needed, samples are collected in proper containers following the lab’s procedures, including first-draw timing for lead, and sent promptly to an accredited lab.

We review the results with you in plain language, explaining what’s normal, what exceeds guidelines and what simply affects taste. If treatment is warranted, we recommend certified options matched to the findings. If your water is fine, we’ll tell you that clearly and leave you with written results for your records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Water Testing Questions Answered

Have Any Question on Your Minds?
Why test if my utility already does?

Utility testing reflects the system, not your home’s plumbing. Lead and copper from household pipes and fixtures only appear at your tap.

Lead testing uses first-draw samples collected after water sits unused for several hours, analyzed by an accredited lab for accurate results.

Lab results usually arrive within several days to a couple of weeks, depending on the tests ordered and the laboratory’s workload.

They’re useful for basic screening like hardness and chlorine, but accredited lab tests are far more reliable for health-related contaminants.

Test when you notice changes, before buying treatment equipment, after plumbing work or when there’s concern about lead in older homes.
